Day 4: Jet lag day.

Up early today and on the beach by 9.30. Beautiful spot and perfect castle sand (although no pics on that front).

Getting a bit warm by 12, so back to the cabin for a shower and grub, then on the road.....

.....to Split Point lighthouse, Aireys inlet.

And this is where a blog entry from me differs from one from Cait. She would now tell you all about the lighthouse, its history, the shipwrecks that prompted its construction.....blar blar. Me, on the other hand, will tell you it's tall. Oh, and built by convicts. It also featured in some kids tv show, but I can't remember the name and everyone else is taking a nap so I can't ask.

-----STOP PRESS ---------
Cait awake and eager to add some facts!
late entry to the lighthouse facts; it was engineered in Birmingham and the TV show was "Round The Twist" (no, I haven't heard of it either). Hundreds of ships were lost along this stretch of the coast, hard to imagine making it all the way from England and then falling foul within the last stretch. We were lucky to have such a clear day and the sea was as calm as a lake (tell that to the surfers!)
---------------------------------

Even though Sarah was too young, we blagged our way in.

Here's the light. The guide told us that as of last week it's powered by LEDs although to me they looked like car headlights about the size of my thumb. The old bulb was about the size of a 1.5 litre water bottle. We weren't allowed up because it was stuffed full of Vodafone BTX equipment (yeah, there's a bunch of people reading this that will know what that is)

Back from the lighthouse, jet lag finally caught up with us and everyone crashed. Late supper followed by some bouncing on the giant pillow then everyone is ready for bed.

I've been checking the weather back home. If we'd stuck with the original plan to depart on Dec 3rd, we would have been stuck at Heathrow. Also, if we'd have gone with the original Brisbane 1st leg plan we'd be rained in there too. According to the news here they've had record rain fall and flash floods this week. The gold coast is a ghost town with just a few hardcore tourists in packamacs on the beach, so we're hoping that it's all cleared by the time we get there next week. Cos of that I'm not going to gloat too much about it being summer here whilst all you guys are suffering in the cold.

Kids in bed, time for beer.
