Day 21: Jacuzzi Reward

270km drive today and I'm not exactly looking forward to it. Dead tired and in desperate need for coffee. Cait is insured to drive, but I'm saving her share for the Hunter Valley where we're off to next ;-) (for those who don't know, it's the wine region).

On the way out of Port Macquarie, we pass a McDonalds - coffee time! I know it sounds overly desperate, but they have McCafes in them over here and the coffee is actually quite good. That said, coffee in Oz seems to be far superior to the UK in every place we've been so far.

Drive, drive, drive and more driving. Several break-ups and make-ups in the back as the kids play, bicker, play, bicker...... The metallic drone of "You are over the speed limit!" comes from the front and the constant whine of "how many minutes?" comes from the back.

To keep herself entertained, Cait decided to take pictures of mileage roadsigns. The idea being that we can see the Km to Sydney counting down (it started around 900) but after about 10 failed attempts she gave up (I was really bored...and Rob was doing so much moaning about the speed limits /C) Her other idea was to collect pictures of the many and varied ways they encourage you not to speed over here, but that failed too. I spy didn't last very long and the kids only know 2 Christmas songs. That left us with the radio. It's actually not that bad. Less talk and ads and much more varied music than back home. Oz have quite a few homegrown bands I've never heard of and some of the stuff they churn out is quite good.

For lunch we stop off at a place called "Tea Gardens". Another place with a breathtaking beach etc. I didn't even take any photos we've become that blasé. A quick play in the park and on to the valley.

On the road, Cait spies another 'big' thing, the "rock" or fake Ulhuru.

We are staying at a Big4 holiday park in Cessnock. Once I had done some thorough research for a wine tour (picked up a random leaflet from reception) we all chilled in the jaccuzi to unwind. However, for some reason Cait doesn't think that my research was thorough enough, so after dinner she spent a good hour looking through various pamphlets, magazines and guide books to make our own tour. (She didn't think the kids would last a whole day on a bus...)

To be honest, Cessknock and the holiday park seem a bit run down to me, certainly less attractive than all the other places we've been, but I guess we've been quite spoilt.
