Day 11: River Rides

The day starts with us picking up the new hire car. Even though we ordered a big Ford of some sort, we end up with a sporty suped-up version of the car we had in Melbourne. Hopefully devoid of the "safety feature" that got our last one recalled.

The fastest way to the centre was via a ferry over the river which deposited us at the entrance to some arty market. The kids like the ferry, Cait the market.

Quick drive back to Roger's (who's being a perfect host) and we head back on a ferry upstream to the artsy district, the Southbank. There we find a manmade beach that's a public swimming pool. It's rampacked, but we didn't have our cozzies, so we hung out at a park for a bit and had lunch before the the Museum of Queensland. Where we took the mandatory "stick your head through something" pictures.

Here are Tom and Sarah holding jars of pickled snakes. Nice.

Lunch involved a "who can like their elbow" competition.

And included being pestered by these buggers (Ibis) who seem to be Brisbane's equivalent to pigeons.

Music and beers in the park. Excellent bit of reggae and very tired kids (I'll see if I can upload a bit of the video).

Oooh, this should be the video

Then the rain started again. Not as bad as our first experience, but enough to have to break out the brolly which Sarah hogged.

Ferry back, then our first proper Aussie BBQ on Roger's balcony followed by more beer.
