Day 9: Chillin'

Fatigue hit us today and we had a very lazy time indeed, a lot of food involved. Avoided Oprah mania and headed for the pier at St. Kilda (late).

Oprah turned up at Federation Square for 10 minutes and the Australian premier (the red haired lady whose name escapes me) was there to greet her and give her a tour, bizarre. The whole country seems to have gone Oprah mad.

It was cooler today, just 22 degrees and windy so beach time was limited. Kids would have spent all day there but lazy parents in need of coffee.

Sarah started writing, here's her version of "Tom"

There are penguins on the pier too. Seems a little odd, but they hide in the rocks around the harbour wall.

A great Italian meal on Acland St. We finished every morsel. One observation from down under, no where we've been so far seems to have a kids menu. Luckily Tom and Sarah more than happy to eat pasta or pizza 24/7.

We followed up with cake and coffee at an old cake shop on Acland Street called 'Morocco'. The smell inside this little shop was amazing and our greatest dilemma of the day was deciding which cake shop to choose. Sarah really wanted a pink gingerbread woman but we managed to dissuade her as it was 15 dollars! The intricate icing was what made it so expensive apparently. They still use the original till and scales. They also had loads of magazines Vogue, interior mags and the like. Some dated back to the 80s in mint condition. It was weird flicking through and looking at the adverbs for "state of the art" entertainment systems, video recorders and kitchen equipment. Oh and adds for ciggys. It's amazing how the world has moved on in such a short time.

Unfortunately the funfair was closed although you did have to enter via a scary clown's mouth.

Tonight we do a bunch of washing and pack ready for a flight to Brisbane. Hopefully we'll find some wifi access there to upload these 2 entries and then we'll bid farewell to Melbourne. I must say it's a nice place. Relaxed, clean with a vibrant social scene.
