By some miracle, we managed to be packed up and out of our Melbourne pad by 10 am. A quick pit stop at Victorian Market to finally get a hat for me, not too much deliberating as by this stage Rob had enough of 'shopping'. Too tight to pay the toll road (as it involved having to register online) we made our way to the airport amid the traffic with me getting ever so slightly anxious that we might be late. Having dropped the hire car off, we noticed the Hertz chap writing something on the window and here's what it was !

Oh well, we didn't notice anything and we all survived.
An uneventful flight, all on time. As we approach Brisbane, the pilot announces we need to circle due to rain as some aircraft having trouble landing. About 300 feet off the ground we hit a curtain of water, it gets dark and visibility drops to nothing. We land, and yes it is raining!! Torrential. Imagine the heaviest rain ever, the kind of stuff you get for just a couple of minutes in the middle of a downpour before it eases up. Well it was doing that and had been for a while.
Welcome to the Sunshine State :)
Roger (a Kiwi friend from our Brighton days) is there to greet us. Braving the rain, we make our way to his car and get absolutely soaked through, it is warm rain so not unpleasant. Tom and Sarah think the rain is the best thing ever. Rob fishes a towel out to protect his beloved, not me or the kids obviously, but his camera ;) Between walkways, we must have only been in the rain for 30 seconds, but we may as well have jumped into a pool fully clothed.
We make our way in the pouring rain to Rogers apartment in Kangaroo Point, visibility is rubbish and we can hardly see our way. A very welcome cup of tea on arrival, and we empty our luggage as all our (packed) clothes are wet. Rogers (very swish) pad is on the 4th floor overlooking the CBD, superb location as now the rain has cleared we get to see Brisbane for the first time. Queensland is an hour behind Victoria, and sunset is much earlier at 6.30 pm instead of 9pm in Melbourne.
